Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe

During the dry season, the availability of water decreases and many animals are forced to share often-scarce water sources. Competition can be fierce. Generally, the larger animals claim the best spots and only when finished do they allow the others to drink. Here a male Common Eland, Africa’s largest antelope, is "Nudged" away by a more aggressive and tougher Cape Buffalo who wanted that spot. Although there first, the Eland wisely yields, knowing that a Cape Buffalo is notoriously ill-tempered.

Kanga Pan in Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe is a popular drinking spot as it's the only permanent water source within a 20km radius. This park has been ravaged by drought in recent years and water pumped into the pan from deep boreholes has been lifesaving for many animals.
