Super Tusker

Kenya, Africa

A super tusker is an elephant with ivory that weighs 100 pounds or more per tusk. There are approximately 20 super tusker elephants remaining in the world, but unfortunately, that number now totals one less.

A magnificent super tusker named Craig frequented the area around Kenya’s Amboseli National Park. Craig was a well-known icon, extremely calm around people and likely one of the most photographed elephants in all of Africa. He was sought out by visitors, as his gentle demeanor tolerated close-up viewing.

Unfortunately, Craig died of suspected natural causes at 54 years old. Craig was rumored to have digestive issues that presented a serious problem for an elephant of his advanced age. These issues progressed to the point where he was collapsing intermittently and able to move only for short distances. He finally laid down and passed early in the morning of January 3, 2026. We can only hope that he passed on his magnificent genes.
