Elephant Sunset Trek
Kenya, Africa
During the dry season in Amboseli, elephants adapt their daily routine to focus on finding scarce food and water. Their treks are largely predictable and focused on getting to the permanent Ewaso Ng'iro River and other known water sources. As less fresh grass is available, their diet shifts to more fibrous, difficult-to-find vegetation. They consume leaves, twigs, and bark and even push over trees to reach the roots.
Elephants are most active during the cooler parts of the day. Their most significant foraging and traveling periods occur in the early morning and late afternoon. Opportunistic birds follow along, feasting on any insects the elephants might stir up.
