Tusker Walking the Savannah

An elephant with large, prominent tusks is generally referred to as a “tusker”. "Super Tuskers" are a specific category of elephant with massive tusks weighing over 100 pounds (45 kg) that often touch the ground. A genetic variation causes these tusks to grow faster and longer, making them unique. Unfortunately, these large-tusked elephants are highly prized by poachers which has greatly dwindled their numbers. Super Tuskers are incredibly rare today, with most found in Kenya, specifically, but not exclusively in the Tsavo ecosystem.
