Male rhinoceroses fight to establish dominance. Fights are part of the courtship process and are also used to attract females. They also fight for territory and to scare off intruders. Rhino fights can be extremely aggressive and dangerous, with high rates of injury and even death. They can involve pushing, shoving, and stabbing with their horns, sometimes resulting in serious injury or even death, though fights often end when one rhino retreats. The severity of the fight depends on the individuals and the cause.

Young rhinos engage in sparring to learn how to interact with other rhinos and to practice skills they will need later in life. These white rhinos in Kenya tussled for quite a while, although in the end it didn’t seem to be too serious…but could have been for the one.
