Western Grebes Dip-Shaking
Southern California, USA
Dip-shaking
Grebe mating is a complicated and predictable affair. During this courting process, grebes will dip their bill and head into the water, then raise up, shaking the head from side to side. This involves a low-neck posture and a conspicuous water splash. This is refered to as Dip-Shaking
