Paine Grande and Los Cuernos
Patagonia, Chile
Paine Grande and Los Cuernos are probably the most readily identified peaks in Torres del Paine National Park. Here they are depicted in winter, reflected in a placid Lago Nordenskjold from Mirador Cuernos.
The Paine massif dates back at least 12 million years, when geological forces lifted large sedimentary layers of the earth. Glaciers later eroded the “softer” layers, leaving behind the uniquely shaped granite peaks.
